Welcome to Banning, California.
Banning is a city located in Riverside County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 23,562.
It is situated in the San Gorgonio Pass, also known as Banning Pass. It is named for its founder, Phineas Banning, stagecoach line owner and the "Father of the Port of Los Angeles."
Banning became a stagecoach stop for the Colorado Stage and Express Line, which in 1862 carried people to work the gold mines along the Colorado River. The route was through Banning, Cabazon and Whitewater, and the last stop before Palm Springs.
In 1876, the railroad replaced the stagecoach, and the town that remains there is still named "Stagecoach Town U.S. today.
The City of Banning is strategically located astride Interstate 10 between the Inland Empire and the Coachella Valley in the San Gorgonio Pass. The City, incorporated in 1913, has a rich and colorful history.

It also has been, and in some respects even today remains, an agricultural area with cattle ranching and orchards forming the back bone of that industry.
This history has contributed to the present day spirit of pioneer resourcefulness and "can do" attitude that is so prevalent in the community. Banning is a friendly and wholesome place to work and raise a family.
The railroad along with its "can do" attitude has afforded Banning a booming economy. And Although, it remains primarily an agriculture and cattle ranching town, many business have made Banning a growing community.
Consumer goods and electrical equipment are manufactured. An annual stagecoach day festival is held, and the city has a stagecoach museum. Nearby are San Bernardino National Forest, a state park, and a Univ. of Southern California art complex.
Nearby Banning Municipal Airport, (FAA designator: BNG), has a 5,200 foot runway. San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital is a General Acute Care Hospital in Banning with Basic Emergency Services as of 2005.
The Banning Eagles are a minor league football team of the California Football Association play half their home games in Banning High School and another half at the Lake Elsinore Diamond in Lake Elsinore.
